Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teamwork, Support, and Process
Construction Phase Services During Pavement Rehabilitation Projects
Provide full-time or part-time construction observation and associated documentation on behalf of the client to help ensure that projects are conducted in compliance with the contract documents and industry standard paving practices. The Pavement Consultant will also monitor the construction process to help manage on-schedule project completion and budget objectives, while minimizing disruptions to facility operations. This position will report to a designee level staff member within the pavement division and includes regular communications with the Benchmark project manager, client representatives, and the contractor’s project manager.
Field Consultant primary tasks include:
- Vigilant on-site daily quality assurance inspection of work in process, primarily commercial, industrial or retail for national multi-facility corporations to validate that material/workmanship is in compliance to the contract specifications.
- Document observations, action items, adherence to schedule, unit cost accounting, meetings, workmanship deficiencies, etc., through weekly construction reports.
- Complete and distribute report data and supporting information to the internal project team for further processing.
- Collaborate with client and contractor’s project manager to resolve technical questions and proposed changes by the contractor.
- Conduct and document project progress meetings with client, contractor, and others as required to resolve project issues and track adherence to the project schedule.
- Advise the project team on key issues affecting the status of schedule and estimate completion date.
- Collaborate with project support staff for on-time delivery of reports and project closeout documents.
- Perform final inspection, identify deficiencies and incomplete items requiring correction, and document with a completion punch list.
Other tasks may include:
- Review contractor’s pre-construction administrative and material submittals, in coordination with Benchmark’s project manager.
- Conduct pre-construction meetings and associated documentation.
- Assist Benchmark Staff, Senior Consultants, and projects teams with pavement evaluations and design investigations.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Ability and willingness to travel weekly on a nationwide basis by air and vehicle.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in pavement construction, engineering, inspection/review, estimating or related experience, including: Onsite project management and construction inspection/review, Working with/for pavement contractor(s).
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
- Ability to use tools to measure, estimate and verify that project specifications are followed.
- Ability to apply technical skills and research to meet project demands and solve problems for our clients.
- Ability to build and maintain positive client relationships.
- Strong passion in the continuous pursuit of technical excellence, learning and improvement.
- Physical requirements include: Ability to lift at least 50 lbs., ability to perform close-view visual analysis of pavements – which requires standing and walking for long periods of time, ability to sit, stand, walk, and stoop for extended periods of time.
Preferred
- 2-year degree in Construction Management or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with on-site construction phase services and quality assurance inspection in a related field/industry.
- Experience working with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System. Benchmark uses Deltek.
- Experience with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System).
