Associate Director, WAPA

Our mission at the Wisconsin Asphalt Pavement Association is to promote quality hot mix asphalt pavements that are safe, efficient and in the best interest of the customer. Our members, large and small, serve the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT); the state’s counties, municipalities towns and villages; and commercial and private customers. We strive to help provide information and solutions at all levels to help keep asphalt the top choice for pavements in the state.

The Position:

Under the direction of the Executive Director and Board of Directors of WAPA, the Associate Director will act as the industry and public relations/government liaison and asphalt marketing advocate to our members as well as WisDOT and the counties, cities and municipalities they serve. This high visibility position requires a highly motivated self-starter who can productively build market share within a team environment with minimal direct supervision.

A successful candidate will provide the following services:

  • Promote use of asphalt pavement statewide on the municipal, county, state levels and private markets, with a goal of increasing market share.
  • Establish and maintain contact with local cities and counties to be a resource and point of contact for questions related to asphalt pavements.
  • Establish and maintain contact with WisDOT Administration, Bureaus and region personnel.
  • Attend WisDOT and industry meetings on behalf of the Association as directed.
  • Be knowledgeable in basic asphalt construction processes, materials, and specifications.
  • Assist with non-technical and/or technical publications (website, newsletter, etc).
  • Coordinate and/or participate in the involvement of national, regional and local marketing strategies to promote quality asphalt pavements and grow the market.
  • Monitor governmental and industry activities to detect issues requiring the Association’s involvement.
  • Be knowledgeable in transportation funding and serve as the liaison with other organizations regarding transportation funding and mutual industry topics.
  • Assist in increasing involvement of current and new members.
  • Assist with providing training of the membership, HMA industry and its various customers.
  • Assist in the development and management of necessary marketing materials to support the sales effort, including the WAPA website, webinars, workshops, exhibits, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Proven communication abilities (website, newsletters, publications, presentations, reports, etc).
  • Prior knowledge of and experience with asphalt pavement construction or sales is highly desired.
  • 5-10 years of prior industry or consultative experience is beneficial.
  • Excellent relationship building, presentation and selling skills are required.
  • Ability to travel nationally and statewide is required.

Location:

The WAPA office is located on the east side of Madison.  Office hours are flexible with remote office possibilities.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary is negotiable and dependent on qualifications and experience.
  • SEP and health insurance package provided.
  • Mileage for association business (exclusive of commuting) on a personal vehicle is reimbursed at the maximum IRS rate.
